Audio Visual Meetup #10: Digital Storytelling
VJs, event producers, theatre technicians, lighting designers, creative coders, 3D modellers and curious beginners, all in the same room.
A free monthly meet-up for the people who make sound and light in Bath.
Once a month, straight after work, we open up our process at Newark Works. Someone shows a project. Someone teaches a trick. Everyone leaves knowing a bit more about how audio visual work is made.
Who it’s for
DJs, VJs, producers, musicians, creative coders, lighting designers, theatre techs and tinkerers. It’s for anyone who’s watched a show and wondered how they made that. Pros and first-timers share the room, and you don’t need a portfolio to come.
How to get involved
- Watch. Pull up a chair and see how other people work. No pressure to say a word.
- Show. Bring a project, whether finished, half-finished or broken, and talk us through it in a short slot.
- Learn. Every session has a 30-minute deep dive into a tool or technique, led by someone who uses it for real.
- Play out. We book performers for our own and POLYMATHIC's AV nights from this room.
November's Deep dive: Digital Storytelling with Dave Webb
Dave is a creative technologist and senior lecturer in Creative Computing at Bath Spa University. He works with artists, theatre makers and others on playful audience experiences, built with creative coding, web tech, microcontrollers and a lot of LEDs. In 30 minutes he’ll show how he uses technology to tell stories, and how he gets audiences inside them.
What’s in the room
- A big screen with HDMI input. Bring an adapter if your laptop needs one.
- Extra projectors and PA speakers, if you let us know in advance.
- Power, wifi and somewhere comfy to sit.
What to bring
Your laptop, controller or kit if you’re showing something. Bring a clip on a USB stick if you just want to throw it on the screen. Or bring nothing at all.
